## Start with approved fabrication data
The manufacturing route begins with the board specification, artwork and drill information. Engineering review resolves construction, materials and special requirements before production release. Process order and repeated operations depend on whether the board is rigid, multilayer, HDI, flexible or another construction.
## Circuit formation and multilayer construction
Copper patterns define the required circuitry. Multilayer boards bring inner-layer circuits and insulating materials together into a stackup. Layer registration, material selection and the approved construction are connected decisions, rather than independent catalogue limits.
## Holes and layer interconnection
Drilling and related preparation establish holes and interconnection features. Metallization and plating create conductive connections where required. A through-hole board and an HDI design with microvias can require different process routes and additional manufacturing steps.
## Protective layers, finish and outline
Solder mask and marking are applied according to the design requirements. The specified surface finish prepares exposed connection areas for the intended next step. Routing, slots and other mechanical features must match the fabrication drawing and agreed tolerances.
## Inspection belongs throughout the process
Inspection is linked to process stages as well as final acceptance. Optical inspection, electrical testing and dimensional review address different types of requirement. Additional evidence, such as impedance records or cross-sections, must be defined for the project.
## Prepare for a repeat build
Keep the approved fabrication package, stackup and engineering decisions together. A repeat order should identify the same revision or clearly describe changes. Material substitutions and revised acceptance requirements need to be reviewed before the next release.
Questions, answered
## Before your next build
Does every PCB follow the same manufacturing sequence?
No. Construction, materials, interconnection features and special processes affect the route. Multilayer and HDI boards can involve operations that a simpler double-sided board does not require.
